Why do I like wicker furniture? It's simple: it brings back memories. My big sister (who is almost like a 2nd mom to me) used to have wicker chairs and other wicker furniture in her apartment. Whenever I see wicker, I think of her!
I like how it's woven, and the sound it makes when you sit in it. It makes a slight crunch almost like the sound of stepping on small branches and leaves in the autumn. There is something not only nostalgic but comforting about that sound.
Another thing that's great about wicker is that is has that rustic look to it. A lot of furniture is clinical and impersonal. Wicker is very earthy and inviting. There's just something special about the way it looks. And it is unique in contrast to regular wood furniture.
Wicker reminds me of fine poetry, specialty coffees, great books, the arts, and culture. I don't know why. Maybe it's because these are some of the things my sister appreciates; things that I, too, learned to appreciate from being her brother.
